I have been practicing yoga at Southern Om for over 4 years. This has become an oasis and a home away from home. My beautiful wife, who is from Bogota, Colombia, supports me because she says I am more peaceful when I practice. Our daughter, who is 16, really is lost in her teenage years- does anyone speak teenager? I could use the help!! On February 23rd, 2012, my life changed forever. I had to have an operation due to a melanoma in my left eye. They removed my eye and I was reminded that we are only here for a short amount of time. ‘One day at a time’ takes on a different meaning once cancer enters the picture. However, I was told that in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is King. After teaching children with learning disabilities for over 20 years, I retired from GCSD. However, I still volunteer at Augusta Circle Elementary to help children learn to read. When I graduated from high school in 1967, I was only reading at a 5th grade level; therefore, I know what it is like not being able to read. Later in life I overcame my reading disabilities and became a teacher. I am blessed beyond my belief. I have a beautiful, kind, and caring wife of 18 years and a smart & loving child. I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas” Doug’s first class at Southern Om was August 23rd, 2013, and he has since practiced 679 times.
