Your First Yoga Class at Southern Om: What to Expect & How to Prepare

Namaste and Welcome!

Thinking about taking your first yoga class?

Whether you’re new to yoga or new to hot yoga, Southern Om is a welcoming space designed to help you feel supported from the moment you walk in.

This quick guide covers exactly what to expect, what to wear, and what to bring—so you can arrive feeling confident and ready to practice.

What to Wear to Your First Hot Yoga Class

Comfort is key. Our classes are warm and movement-based, so choose clothing that allows you to breathe and move freely:

  • Moisture-wicking tops

  • Fitted shirts that stay in place during movement

  • Shorts or leggings you’re comfortable sweating in

You don’t need special yoga clothes—just wear what feels good in your body.

What to Bring to Class

For your first class at Southern Om, we recommend bringing:

  • A yoga mat

  • A water bottle (hydration is essential in hot yoga)

  • A sweat towel for your mat or face

New to yoga and don’t have gear yet?

We offer mat and towel rentals, so you can simply show up and practice.

Arrive Early & Ask Questions

Arriving 10–15 minutes early allows time to check in, get settled, and let your teacher know it’s your first class. Our instructors are happy to offer guidance, modifications, and support.

During Class: Listen to Your Body

Yoga is about presence—not perfection. Take breaks when needed, rest whenever you like, and move at your own pace. Every class meets you exactly where you are.

Welcome to the Southern Om Community

Starting something new takes courage, and we’re honored to practice with you. At Southern Om, yoga is about building strength, clarity, and consistency—one class at a time.

We can’t wait to see you on the mat.
